But I'm a real house!

The other day I asked my employer — who owns the house I lease a bedroom in — if I could pay more and take over the living room, since there’s no-one else in the house at this time. Because of Grandpa moving in with my parents, there is a bunch of furniture that doesn’t fit in the combined house. I’m getting an overstuffed chair, an old and flat — yet comfortably long enough — couch, a desk, and a TV and TV-stand that’s currently in my old bedroom in the basement. I have a Salvation-Army TV, but you actually have to get up and walk to change the channel. Terribly outdated. It’s fortunate that I can only get 4 channels (PBS, FOX, and a couple major networks), since I have a very rapid style of channel-surfing. Tons of channels would be a pain without a remote.

It will be nice to have a place that I can sit and read, or stretch out nonchalantly on the couch — it doesn’t have the full-nap connotations that the bed does.

Imagining myself sitting quietly and reading makes me think of lamps, because they are vital to reading, and it also reminds me that there are no working lights in the living room save for one end-table lamp. I suppose that will suffice, but I’ll need something to put it on, like, maybe, an end-table.

Also, my grandmother is giving me an old stereo cabinet (~1960?) with a radio and record player in it. I think I’m going to keep the speakers and put a modern radio or something inside, with an iPod dock on the top. Or maybe, if Apple gets it’s act together, the iBox (yes, it’s back). That would be cool.

So to sum up, Dad is driving to Grandpa’s old house tomorrow (which I guess is ‘today’ by now … oops) to pick up some more stuff, and he’s ‘swinging by’ here in the evening sometime with the previously mentioned living room suite first. Nice of him, since it’s like 1.5 hours out of his way. That means, though, that I’ll be sticking around here ‘till he does. I should spend some time cleaning this place up so he’s not shocked at the state of things there’s places to put stuff.
