Stupid car
After spending $650 on brakes (all four wheels) last week, ~$200 on an exhaust system last month, and an as-of-yet unknown amount this week for electrical problems (likely a new alternator), I’m losing faith in my car’s undying loyalty to the cause. That, of course, would be the cause of getting me where I need to go.
It’s depressing — I’m used to being able to go where I want / need to, when I want / need to. My friend Emmy summed it up very succinctly by saying i was “having a guy crisis”. Fortunately my bank, favorite restaurants and office are all within walking distance from the house … so it’s not as bad as it could be. It’s just more expensive than it should be.
I should probably get a new car (then again, this one is now a bionic car). But I don’t want just any car … I have some stringent requirements:
- Big enough inside that I can sit up straight
- Big enough inside that I can haul my keyboard and guitar and easel if need be
- Small enough that it gets better gas milage then my ‘89 Caprice
- New enough that it doesn’t break all the time, yet …
- Old enough and inexpensive enough that it doesn’t put me in debt for the next 5 years
- Normal enough that it doesn’t make a statement about how much it cost or anything
I had a Plymouth Grand Voyager before, and I liked that. That might almost be too big, though. Sam and I were looking at some Subaru Outbacks, but I’m still way open to suggestions.
So if anybody’s selling or knows someone who’s selling anything like that, feel free to let me know.
