You're Doing It Wrong

If you’ve ever said to yourself, “I’m a better Christian than {$person} because I …”
- have a daily “quiet time”
- have certain dress standards
- speak in tongues
- don’t go to movies
- have been baptized
- don’t drink alcohol
- don’t listen to rock music
- never miss a church service
… then [you’re doing it wrong](http://icanhascheezburger.com/2007/04/28/youre-doing-it-wrong-2/).
P.S. I used to […]

Spiritual Influences and Education

Some of my spiritual influences and education over the past two years:
- From Charlie Boyd I learned not to let anyone tell me I need to do anything special or extra to merit God’s favor or attention. Working overtime to “keep all the rules” is not only unnecessary, but dangerous. (See the entire book of […]

Christianity & [Secular] Media

Tonight my friend Jon hosted a “Beer & God Night” in his basement. It’s appropriately furnished with old couches and a big console TV. Oh, and there was [beer](http://www.lionbrewery.com/) (and Coke for non-drinkers).

New Directions in Pooh Studies

Biblical textual criticism of Winnie-the-Pooh.

Shortpacked! — A webcomic about toys by David Willis

Shofar

I’m sitting on the couch, wrapping up work for the day, listening to the guy upstairs witness to the neighborhood kids. He’s using his shofar as an object lesson, which is a pretty cool idea.
And contrary to my currently-cynical expectations of modern adolescents, a few kids are apparently listening and thinking about it.

Cardinal Urges Catholics to Shun Da Vinci Code

The Vatican is blasting Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code. I’m not Catholic, but I completely agree with their assessment. The book does not make a distinction between verifiable fact and rampant speculation in it’s presentation of Church history.
Because of that, its near-blasphemous indictments against Christianity and Christ Himself will almost certainly confuse potential […]

Music and church building stuff

The end of worship leading? and new church sewer issues.

Contemplating the Passion

It made it real.

Witness to the Passion

The Passion of the Christ comes out Wednesday. I know I want to see it; I don’t know if I want to see it alone or with others. Though it’s rated R for graphic violence and rightly so (the crucifixion), those who have seen it seem to overwhelmingly agree that viewers will be deeply impacted […]
